Silver is a great material changes the look by how you work it.
Matte silver becomes shiny through wear and the abrasion that occurs. The matte effect can be restored at a jeweler you trust.
Silver in general has a habit of oxidizing - unworn - and darkening in the process. A simple home remedy to restore the original shine and bright silver color is to use toothpaste. Please make sure to use a toothpaste that is suitable (do not use abrasive, bleaching or gel toothpaste). Leave the toothpaste on the jewelry for a few minutes and rub the blackness off under running water with your fingers. Dry the piece well with a soft cloth.
CAUTION: Items you buy as blackened silver have already been heavily oxidized in the manufacturing process to create the matte black color. If you use toothpaste to clean it, this silver piece will also become much lighter and lose its original, intended look.
